AIR Testing: Accessibility Options

Digital tests mean big changes in accessibility. Read this for details!

With Ohio’s New State Tests, students in Sylvania Schools will use digital devices to complete their work. The State has ensured certain accessibility features for students to hep them complete these tests more easily. Many of these features are available for all students, and some are specifically available for students with regular accommodations. For the full discussion, read the Ohio Accessibility Manual.

Here are the facts for teachers:

All students will be given computer mice to use instead of a trackpad if the prefer.

All students will use headphones for audio portions of tests. Schools will encourage students to bring their own headphones or earbuds. Those without will be given earbuds for the testing days.

Teachers may request certain administrative considerations for students that are not already given them through a 504 plan, IEP, or LEP. These considerations include a familiar test administrator, frequent breaks, an alternate testing location, or specialized seating. To discuss these considerations, teachers should discuss the specific issue with their building administrator.

All students in Sylvania schools receive small group testing, defined by the state as a group of fewer than 30 students.

All students will access universal testing tools, such as highlighter, line reader, magnifier, and text-to-speech for non-ELA tests. See the accessibility manual pages 5-7 for a detailed list.

Teachers managing students with 504 plans, IEP’s, or LEP’s will enter their designated accommodations into a building spreadsheet prior to the testing window. Speak with your building administrator if you have not seen this database.
